Whispering in the Prince’s Ear?
The role of JHA agencies in informing EU policy responses to the ‘migration crisis’

Bringing together scholars and practitioners, this seminar posits the question of knowledge production and dissemination as a source of political actorness in the European Union (EU) Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) domain.

In particular, we seek to retrace the impact of JHA agencies on the problematization of the ‘migration crisis’ and on the shaping of responses to increased movements of migrants at the European borders. Based on their fieldwork experience and analytical competences, Frontex, Europol and EASO are often invited to whisper, so to speak, in the Prince’s ear. How do JHA agencies speak knowledge to the ‘ears’ of EU institutions? Is this kind of whispering their privileged way to enact political agency?

The workshop is organized in cooperation with the ERC Consolidator Grant project FOLLOW: Following the Money from Transaction to Trial (CoG—682317). For more information, see the project's website.
