Giovanni Contini

Giovanni Contini Bonacossi, Director of Audio-visual archives of the Soprintendenza Archivista, Tuscany will be ACCESS EUROPE Visiting Scholar from 9 April through 9 May.

During this period, he will be contributing to the European Identity and Culture research theme while being hosted by the Humanities Faculty of the UvA. 

Giovanni Contini became Professor of History of Contemporary Italy and of Archival Science in 2005 at the University of Rome La Sapienza. For thirty years (1984-2014), he has been directing the Audiovisual Archives: Archival Superintendency for Tuscany. Currently, he is President of the Italian Association for Oral History (AISO), a position he attained in 2013.

During his career, Contini has published widely on a wide range of issues centering around memory, social and oral history. During his visit at ACCESS EUROPE, he will engage in the following three activities:

  •  A lecture on memories of the Italian Civil War. View announcement
  • A lecture entitled Controversies in Resistance about the fragmented nature of the Italian Resistance between 1943 and 1945, to be held at the Dutch Institute for War Documentation(NIOD). View announcement
  • A PhD masterclass to be held at the Huizinga Instituut.
